What does the launch of a year-round online hub for international students in South Korea signify for the country’s educational landscape? The initiative, announced by the Education Ministry, is expected to attract more international students to South Korea, which already sees about 12 million visits annually to its existing educational platforms. Education Minister Choi Kyo-jin emphasized, “We will actively support universities and local governments in attracting international students and strengthen a comprehensive system that extends from study to career and settlement.”

In addition to educational advancements, South Korea is also making strides in its energy sector. The Saeul-3 nuclear power plant has recently achieved first criticality, marking a pivotal moment as the reactor begins to operate at low power. This development is crucial as South Korea continues to rely on nuclear energy, with 26 nuclear units in commercial operation as of 2024, contributing 31.7% of the country’s electricity production.

The construction of Saeul-3 began in April 2017 and faced delays due to shifts in government policy regarding nuclear energy. The current administration under President Lee Jae Myung is navigating a complex landscape, advocating for renewable energy while also supporting existing nuclear reactors, a stance that contrasts with the previous government’s nuclear phaseout policy.
