S27 ultra: Galaxy Could Reintroduce Variable Aperture Technology

s27 ultra — PK news

The Galaxy S27 Ultra could reintroduce variable aperture technology after several years, marking a significant shift in Samsung’s camera strategy. This feature allows the camera to physically adjust the lens opening depending on lighting conditions.

The device is expected to feature a triple-camera setup. The primary camera is rumored to be a 200MP sensor with variable aperture, while the other two cameras will likely include a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

Samsung last used variable aperture technology in the Galaxy S10 series. If the leak is accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra would bring the feature back after several years. The 200MP primary camera could utilize Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) technology, which improves dynamic range by pairing a capacitor with pixels.

Samsung has consistently used a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom in previous Ultra models. The Galaxy S27 Ultra may drop this configuration, potentially freeing up internal space for other components, like built-in magnets for Qi2.x wireless charging.

Yet, it is unclear if the Galaxy S27 Ultra will ship with just three cameras or if it will replace the 3x telephoto camera with something else. No information is available on whether Samsung will upgrade the front-facing camera.
