Esteban Andrada’s violent conduct during a derby match has led to a significant 13-match suspension, raising concerns about player discipline in Spanish football. The incident occurred on April 30, 2026, during a match between Real Zaragoza and Huesca.
Andrada punched Jorge Pulido after receiving a second yellow card for shoving him. This resulted in a red card and a subsequent ban. The Spanish Football Federation imposed a 12-match ban for the punch and an additional one-match suspension for the red card.
The brawl involved players and staff from both teams, escalating tensions during the heated derby. Dani Tasende received a two-game suspension for kicking an opponent, while Dani Jiménez was suspended for four matches after punching Andrada during the melee.
Zaragoza lost the match 1-0 against Huesca. The RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee stated, “The offence warranted the maximum 12-match sanction, along with the automatic one-game suspension.” Andrada, who is currently on loan from Monterrey, apologized for his actions after the match.
This incident has raised questions about maintaining discipline in high-pressure matches within La Liga 2. All suspensions remain subject to appeal, leaving room for potential changes to the rulings.
