Islamabad weather update: Heavy rain brings relief and challenges

islamabad weather — PK news

Heavy rain in Islamabad on May 3, 2026, brought relief from weeks of intense heat but also caused damage to crops and exposed infrastructure issues. The minimum temperature dropped to 18 degrees Celsius after the rain.

The rainfall improved inflows into the Khanpur Dam, Rawal Dam, and Simly Dam. However, it also damaged cut wheat lying in fields. Several underpasses were submerged with up to one foot of standing water.

Cool winds followed the rain, drawing residents outdoors. The rainfall washed dust off roads and trees, improving visibility.

Forecasts indicate:

  • Thunderstorms and hailstorms are predicted in various parts of the country.
  • The weather is expected to remain hot and dry in most areas after the rain.
  • Rain is likely in districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Winds blew at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour in the morning after the rain. The humidity level reached 75 percent. Observers noted that if monsoon rains remain normal, there is no immediate threat of a summer water shortage.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an alert for potential thunderstorms and hailstorms across different regions.
