Youm-i-Ali Observed in Karachi

Youm-i-Ali was observed in Karachi on March 11, 2026, to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali. The main procession commenced from Nishtar Park, drawing significant public participation and necessitating extensive security measures.

In preparation for the event, authorities closed M.A. Jinnah Road for traffic, ensuring a safe environment for the procession. Karachi Traffic Police announced, “Due to security reasons, M.A. Jinnah Road from Gurumandir to Tower and from Saddar Dawakhana, Empress Market to Regal Chowk will remain closed.” This closure was part of a broader security strategy involving 22,304 police personnel deployed across the city.

In addition to the police presence, 750 mobile vans and 764 motorcycles were assigned for patrolling and rapid response, respectively. A special control room was established to facilitate immediate communication during the procession, underscoring the importance of maintaining order during this significant religious observance.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar emphasized the need for heightened security at imambargahs and mosques, as well as other religious gatherings expected during the ongoing month of Ramazan. Lanjar stated, “Extraordinary security should be in place at imambargahs and mosques, as well as other religious gatherings expected in the coming days of Ramazan.”

In a related note, the Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah announced a public holiday on March 13 for Youm Al Quds, further highlighting the significance of religious observances in the region.

While the focus on Youm-i-Ali dominated the day’s events, social media discussions also emerged surrounding personal matters involving public figures. Haris Khokhar criticized Fiza Ali for discussing Dr. Nabiha Ali Khan’s marital life during her Ramazan transmission, stating, “When private matters between a husband and wife are brought onto digital or social media platforms, the situation often becomes more complicated.”

Despite the controversy, Dr. Nabiha Ali Khan and her husband reportedly reconciled after the public discourse. Khokhar added, “Disagreements between spouses are often simply matters of ego between two individuals and can be resolved through mutual conversation.”

Youm-i-Ali remains an important religious observance in the Islamic calendar, reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual significance of Hazrat Ali’s legacy among the community.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments related to the procession or the social media discussions that surfaced during this period.
