The government plans to construct a total of 500,000 housing units nationwide. The scheme will be implemented in all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Loans will be repayable over a period of 20 years.

The markup on the loan will be set at 5% for the first 10 years. For the subsequent 10 years, it will be charged at the market rate. An amount of Rs321 billion has been earmarked for the first year of the scheme, with a target to fund 50,000 houses.

PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that providing shelter is a fundamental responsibility of the state. He stated, “The construction sector plays a vital role in driving economic activity and generating employment.” He will personally review the programme’s progress on a monthly basis.

The PM Fuel Package 2026 has already disbursed Rs1.2 billion to over 32,000 beneficiaries. This initiative aims to provide relief amid rising fuel costs, particularly for low-income households.

The success of this programme could significantly impact economic activity in the construction sector. It may also uplift many families struggling with housing affordability in Pakistan.
