SBU Eats has introduced an internship program specifically for Culinary Arts students at Suffolk County Community College (SCCC). This program, which lasts for 16 weeks, is designed to offer hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment. Two students from SCCC have been selected to participate in this paid internship during the spring semester.

One of the selected interns, Suanne Agugliaro, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Participating in a culinary internship program is something I am truly passionate about.” Her fellow intern, Adriana Carrero, added, “It’s the people that make it more fun,” emphasizing the collaborative nature of the culinary field.

In addition to local opportunities, the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) in Seoul, South Korea, offers a diverse internship program that spans multiple departments, including Epidemiology, Public Health, and Data Science. Interns at IVI can work for a minimum of 4 weeks and up to 16 weeks, with the potential to earn USD $200 per week for full-time roles.

However, the landscape of internships has changed significantly in recent years. Data indicates that internship postings last year fell just below levels from 2019, and the average number of applications per internship nearly doubled in 2025. This decline in availability has raised concerns about job prospects for graduates entering the workforce.

Interns at IVI describe their experiences as “intellectually stimulating and professionally transformative,” showcasing the value of such programs in enhancing career readiness.
