The Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, has announced a significant relief package for motorbike owners in the province, aimed at alleviating the financial burden on citizens amid rising fuel prices.

The relief package includes a subsidy of Rs. 100 per liter on up to 20 liters of petrol per month for registered motorbike owners. This initiative is expected to provide substantial support as the government seeks to address the challenges posed by increasing fuel costs.

In addition to the petrol subsidy, the government has abolished registration and transfer fees for motorbikes in Punjab, further easing the financial strain on motorbike owners. Every registered motorbike owner will receive a monthly subsidy of Rs. 2,000, which can be applied for starting April 4, 2026.

Eligible citizens can apply for the subsidy through various channels, including helpline 1000, the Maryam Ko Batayen app, or the official web portal. Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of a transparent mechanism for the facilitation of citizens, stating, “The package has been launched with immediate effect with a transparent mechanism for facilitation of citizens.”

Moreover, the relief package also extends to farmers, who will receive a subsidy of Rs. 150 per liter for diesel, applicable for up to 10 liters per acre on a maximum of 25 acres of land. This measure aims to support the agricultural sector amidst rising operational costs.

Maryam Nawaz has committed to personally overseeing the subsidy mechanism, ensuring that the financial assistance is delivered transparently, efficiently, and in a timely manner. She stated, “I am personally overseeing the subsidy mechanism to ensure transparent, efficient and timely delivery of financial assistance.”

The implementation of this relief package comes in response to the rising global oil prices that have led to increased petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan, impacting the daily lives of citizens.

As the government rolls out this initiative, the effectiveness of the subsidy program and its impact on the financial well-being of motorbike owners and farmers will be closely monitored. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the total number of beneficiaries expected to apply for the subsidies.

Minority Card Distribution in Rawalpindi

“The programme offers quarterly financial aid of Rs10,500 to eligible families, aiming to enhance their socio-economic conditions,” stated Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema during the distribution ceremony held at Viqarun Nisa College for Women in Rawalpindi.

The Punjab government has distributed 850 minority cards as part of a welfare initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged non-Muslim households. This initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and supporting minority communities.

Tahira Aurangzeb, a key participant in the initiative, emphasized, “The aim of the Minority Card Scheme was to provide financial assistance to deserving families and make them economically strong so that they could lead a better life.” The financial support is intended to cover essential expenses, including food, education, and utility bills.

The distribution of these cards is being implemented in two phases, with the first phase already completed. Phase-II is expected to see the distribution of nearly 994 additional cards, further extending the reach of this support.

In addition to the minority card distribution, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has announced a two-day training programme for police officials assigned to security duties at Imambargahs and category-A mosques across Rawalpindi district. This training aims to enhance security preparedness for sensitive religious sites.

A flag march was conducted throughout Rawalpindi to reinforce security arrangements, highlighting the government’s proactive approach to ensuring safety in the region. The training session will be held at the Police Lines Headquarters Rawalpindi.

The recent initiatives by the Punjab government illustrate a broader commitment to addressing the needs of minority communities while ensuring their safety and security during religious observances.
