The Pakistan Super League (PSL), launched by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) under Najam Sethi in 2015, is set to begin its 2026 season on March 26, 2026. This season marks a significant expansion, with the introduction of two new teams: Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz, bringing the total number of teams to eight.
Among the teams participating in PSL 2026 are established franchises such as Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, and Islamabad United. The first-ever PSL auction was held earlier in 2026, with franchises like Hyderabad Kingsmen reportedly sold for Rs245 million. The total investment for the new teams is estimated at 3.6 billion Rs, highlighting the growing financial stakes in the league.
Mohammad Rizwan expressed gratitude towards Najam Sethi, stating, “I think the credit definitely goes to Najam Sethi. The way he took this step and the way he brought the people. He should be remembered.” Rizwan also acknowledged the achievements of the current management, noting the significant sale price of their franchise.
Despite the excitement surrounding the new season, Rizwan mentioned that there may be some disappointment among fans regarding the current state of cricket in the nation. However, he remains optimistic about the emergence of new talent, stating, “But from a cricketing point of view, perhaps the nation is disappointed at the moment, but as mentioned, new players are coming through.”
