The African National Congress (ANC) has placed Morutse Molefe on precautionary suspension amid ongoing concerns regarding misconduct within its ranks. This decision follows a meeting of the ANC Provincial Working Committee (PWC) on March 30, 2026, where the issues surrounding Molefe’s conduct were discussed.
According to ANC spokesperson Louis Diremelo, the behavior exhibited during a recent regional conference has been deemed as misconduct under Rule 25.17 of the ANC Constitution. Diremelo stated, “The behaviour exhibited during the regional conference constitutes acts of misconduct as contemplated under Rule 25.17 of the ANC Constitution.”
The suspension is pending the outcome of processes by the Provincial Disciplinary Committee, which will determine the next steps regarding Molefe’s status within the party. Diremelo further noted that the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) will exercise the powers of the Regional Executive Committees (RECs) until a final determination is made.
In a separate development, the Presidential Electoral College (PEC) convened with significant attendance, as 260 out of 263 Hluttaw representatives were present for the second day of their meeting. During this session, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was elected as Vice President.
In addition to the political developments in South Africa and Myanmar, Prince Edward County has announced a full burn ban effective April 1, 2026. This ban restricts all fires, including campfires and burn barrels, although cooking devices using wood pellets or charcoal are permitted.
The burn ban is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing wildfires in the region. Local officials have stated, “The burn ban restricts all fires including campfires, burn barrels, chimeneas, brush piles and yard waste.”
As the ANC navigates this internal challenge, observers are closely monitoring the situation to see how it will impact the party’s integrity and public perception. The outcome of the disciplinary proceedings against Molefe will likely play a significant role in shaping the ANC’s response to accountability and misconduct allegations.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the timeline for the disciplinary process and any potential repercussions for Molefe. The ANC continues to emphasize its commitment to upholding principles of accountability and integrity within its structures.
