Explosion at U.S. Embassy

“It’s natural to see this in the context of the current security situation and that this could be an attack deliberately targeting the U.S. Embassy,” said Frode Larsen, a spokesperson for the Norwegian police security service (PST), following an explosion that occurred at the embassy in Oslo at around 1 a.m. local time.

The explosion caused no injuries but resulted in minor material damage, particularly to the embassy’s entrance. Authorities are treating the incident with the utmost seriousness, as emphasized by Astri Aas-Hansen, who stated, “This is an unacceptable incident that is being treated with the utmost seriousness.”

Police are investigating the explosion as a possible act of terror, with no suspects identified at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and police are searching for one or several perpetrators.

In response to the explosion, the Norwegian police security service has called in additional personnel to bolster their efforts. Significant resources have been deployed, including dogs, drones, and a helicopter, to assist in the investigation.
