Spain’s Diplomatic Withdrawal

Spain’s Foreign Ministry confirms the withdrawal of the ambassador to Tel Aviv, who was called back for consultations ‘indefinitely.’ This decision comes amid a diplomatic standoff over Israeli policies and the ongoing Gaza war, which was triggered by the Hamas-led invasion of southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Gideon Sa’ar, an Israeli politician, criticized Spain’s actions, stating that the country is leading ‘a hostile, anti-Israel line.’ The tensions between Israel and Spain have notably escalated since the onset of the Gaza conflict, with Spain implementing a prohibition on sales and purchases of military equipment with Israel from the start of the war.
