Friday Holiday Notification in Sindh

The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on March 13, 2026 (Friday) across the province for all government offices and public sector institutions. This announcement aligns with the observance of Jumma-tul-Wida, the last Friday of Ramadan.

According to the notification, essential services will continue to operate as usual during this holiday. The holiday applies to all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous organisations, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government.

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah confirmed, “The public holiday would be observed on Friday for Jumma-tul-Wida.” Furthermore, the Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah stated, “The government of Sindh has been pleased to declare March 13, 2026, as a public holiday throughout the province of Sindh for all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the government of Sindh, except essential services.”

Prior to this holiday, a public holiday was observed on March 12, 2026, for Youm-e-Ali. Schools across the province will remain closed from March 16 to 31, 2026, while colleges and universities will conduct online classes during this period. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon noted, “Schools will have spring holidays from March 16 to 31, while colleges and universities will conduct online classes. No exams will be postponed.”

This public holiday is part of a broader initiative by the Sindh government, which has implemented a work-from-home arrangement for government employees on Fridays as part of an austerity and fuel conservation plan. This decision follows a national austerity plan introduced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

It is important to note that if Ramadan completes 29 fasting days, March 13 will mark Jumma-tul-Wida; otherwise, it will fall on March 20. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact reason for the public holiday and the confirmation of the moon sighting affecting the date of Jumma-tul-Wida.
