Eid Date Update: Extended Holidays in Bangladesh
The government of Bangladesh has officially extended the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays to include March 18, resulting in a total of seven consecutive days off for the celebration. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be observed on either March 20 or March 21, depending on the sighting of the moon. March 21 is currently considered the more likely date for the celebration.
Initially, the holidays were set from March 19 to March 23, with March 21 designated as a general holiday for Eid. The addition of March 18 as a holiday allows for an extended period of festivities leading up to the holiday.
Moreover, March 17 will serve as a public holiday for Shab-e-Qadr, further enhancing the holiday atmosphere in the country.
Coinciding with the Eid celebrations, two major film releases are scheduled for March 19, 2026. The movie “Dhurandhar 2” will hit theaters on the same day as Pawan Kalyan’s “Ustaad Bhagat Singh,” creating a notable clash in the entertainment sector during the holiday period.
With the extended holiday, families and communities are expected to engage in various traditional celebrations and gatherings, marking the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the final moon sighting and the exact date of Eid, as it is traditionally determined by lunar observations.
The upcoming Eid celebrations are anticipated to bring together people across the nation, fostering a sense of unity and joy among the citizens of Bangladesh.
As the holiday approaches, further updates regarding the moon sighting and any additional announcements from the government are expected.
