According to Iranian state media on Sunday, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former president of Iran, was reportedly killed in a coordinated strike by US and Israeli forces at his home in Tehran.
The reports indicated that the assault focused on the Narmak area in eastern Tehran, resulting in the death of Ahmadinejad along with a number of his security personnel.
Ahmadinejad, aged 69, was the sixth president of Iran, serving from 2005 until 2013, during which he oversaw the ninth and tenth administrations. His time in office was characterized by a confrontational stance towards Western nations and rising tensions regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Born in 1956 in the village of Aradan, located in Semnan Province, he relocated to Tehran with his family during his childhood. Prior to his presidency, he held the position of governor in Ardabil Province and subsequently served as the mayor of Tehran.
In 2013, following his departure from office, he was appointed by Iran’s supreme leader to the Expediency Council, which serves as an advisory group that resolves conflicts between the parliament and the Guardian Council. He has remained a member in the years since.
The announcement of his death follows the killing of Iran’s supreme leader in airstrikes conducted by the US and Israel just a day prior.
